The War of the Ancestors was a conflict that took place on Antagarich, and is shown in Heroes Chronicles: The World Tree and Heroes Chronicles: The Fiery Moon.

A brutal tribe of barbarians from Krewlod felt that the barbarian people lacked a hero or ideal to live up to, so they began to worship and make sacrifices to one of their ancient kings, the Barbarian Tyrant. One of the Ancestors noticed this, and decided to accept their worship in the form of the war god Vorr.

With his new strength, Vorr defeated and imprisoned the other Ancestors. Allied with a group of necromancers, he decided that he would destroy the World Tree, the source of all life. The other Ancestors managed to contact the immortal hero Tarnum and sent him to protect the World Tree. Aided by the barbarian tribes guarding the tree, Tarnum fought Vorr's minions, but was troubled by their bloodthirsty nature.

The wise shaman Addar believed that Vorr might lose his power if he lost his followers, so Tarnum acquired the Pendant of Total Recall. He then demonstrated to King Targor, leader of Vorr's followers, that Tarnum was in fact the Barbarian Tyrant that they had begun to worship. "I have spent centuries trying to redeem myself for these crimes. Don't follow my example!" he said to the shocked king.

Targor went to tell Vorr that they would no longer worship him, so Vorr killed him and left. With the war god gone, Tarnum defeated the necromancers. Following the Ancestor across great distances, Tarnum learned from the familiar Skizzik that the Ancestors were imprisoned among the kreegans on The Fiery Moon. Tarnum traveled there across the Sparkling Bridge and freed the other Ancestors, who gave Tarnum a vial of sap from the World Tree. The sap could cure Vorr's insanity and return him to normal.

Tarnum led his army against Vorr, but his forces suffered a great defeat and were almost wiped out. Tarnum wanted to kill Vorr in revenge, but the other Ancestors pleaded with him to show mercy, since killing Vorr would lead to the death of the other Ancestors, preventing any barbarian from ever entering Paradise. Tarnum would also perish.

Tarnum managed to defeat Vorr in combat, and with the Ancestor dying at his feet, Tarnum chose to show mercy and gave him the healing sap that restored him.
