- This article is about the creature from Heroes of Might and Magic IV. For other uses, see vampire.
The vampire is a third-level creature of the Necropolis in Heroes of Might and Magic IV.
Vampires regain health when they attack a living opponent. Health gained this way can even resurrect fallen vampires. Their hypnotic presence also prevents their victims from retaliating.OffBck
Overview[]
The vampire is a powerful flying undead unit which can attack without drawing retaliatory strikes, heals itself by half of the damage it inflicts whether attacking or retaliating, and can even replenish slain vampires with this healing. This healing does not work against non-living targets, and is identical to that provided by the Vampiric Touch spell.
In terms of cost, rate of production, power, and effectiveness, they are the strongest level three unit in Heroes of Might and Magic IV. They are fast, strong, tough, immune to mind spells, and have abilities that keep their casualties to a minimum. Apart from a racial susceptibility to Holy Word and Holy Shout, they have no weaknesses.
Comments[]
Vampires, more than any other creature, have a sort of critical mass threshold. Below that number, they can be destroyed in combat, but above that number, they will inflict enough damage to replenish any damage that they suffer and essentially take no losses. Beware the Disintegrate spell, since it kills the vampires permanently, and the surviving vampires are unable to resurrect the fallen ones.
Note that, since they can't replenish themselves from Elementals, Mechanical units, or undead units, any of these will have a much easier time against vampires.
