Seven Steps to Glory is in the contest maps folder of Winds of War. I played on Expert. You might enjoy it more on a lower difficulty level so the computer player has a better chance. When I reached his home territory he still hadn't captured a neutral city readily available and there were four dead heroes lost to neutral stacks. Blue never posed a threat or took a second city (10 on the map).

I chose a random alignment and got Order. Lots of "hit and run" while I slowly built my city. Be sure your start gives you Magic Fist with the hero, the Level one Mage Guild or the handy shrine. Precision makes those halflings into a force. Take Wizardry early to increase your punch. I hired an Order Lord on day 2, then a Knight and then Order Lords every week until I had 7. Once you can produce Genies things get much easier.

Somewhere around the middle of Month 5, I had done everything I could in the NW corner but 350 Black Dragons barred the portal to get out. I had 55 Titans but this was going to be a long, boring game if I had to build enough Titans to beat 350 Black Dragons. Then I realized I had a Ring of Greater Negation. This may be the most powerful artifact in the game! I don't think I've ever had one before. This made the 350 Black Dragons trivial. What with Hypnotize, 55 Titans and 90 Genies, piece of cake!

I could have beat the scenario within days of clearing the portal but I decided I wanted to see what the rest of the map had to offer. It took until M7W2 to explore 100% and win all Cities and significant battles. My original Mage and her General sidekick were Level 32.
