"Finally, Tarnum learned the name of the enemy who kidnapped Rion Gryphonheart's soul from Paradise. However, this seemed a small victory next to finally facing his greatest crime and accepting his role as the Immortal Hero."

Twisted Tunnels is the fourth scenario in Conquest of the Underworld.

Tarnum must defeat the Dungeon Overlords to continue to the next level. As before, the game is lost if Tarnum is killed. All Heroes will be limited to level 20, but Tarnum and two of his best Captains will carry over to the next scenario with all of their skills, spells and experience.OffBck

Realizing that his nightmares are forcing him to face his darkest deeds, Tarnum decides to write down a confession of his greatest crime: poisoning his old friend Hardac and the other captains when they tried to convince him to go home and stop the war against Bracaduun. After telling them that he had been convinced, and that they could all go home, he handed them a poisoned goblet, then pretended to spill it on the ground when it was his turn to drink. He watched as they died, cursing his name.

After writing down his confession, he buries it beneath a rock in some tunnel, so even he couldn't find it again.

When he rescues some poor old woman from a hell hound's den, he realizes that she's a witch, and she tells him that the demon who stole Rion Gryphonheart's soul is called Jorm, and that he never stays in one place for long - he has too many enemies for that. If they seek out Duke Deezelisk of the Bottom, he can tell them where to find him.

Queen Allison stayed behind on the previous level of the underworld, as Tarnum didn't want her to get killed, but she almost dies in an ambush after taking a small force to hunt magogs. Shaken by the experience, she writes to Tarnum for advice, and he tells her never to go into danger like that again. Keeping the Queen of Erathia alive is their top priority.

Walkthrough[]

Tarnum and his two best heroes from the previous scenario start out in the cliffs in the center of the map. To the east is their Castle Point Dume, which will be conquered by the green player during the first day. There are three opponents, who have one Dungeon each, in the southwestern, northeastern, and southeastern corners.

On the first day, Tarnum should go and take the neutral Castle to the east, allowing him to field an army. With his new forces, he should go north and take out the green player's Dungeon, before going west to the other Castle. Then heading south to the purple player's Dungeon, and then east to the blue player's Dungeon. Once all enemy forces have been defeated, Tarnum is victorious.

Strategy[]

To the north, there's an Ambassador's Sash behind a quest guard that only Tarnum can open.

In the northwestern corner, Tarnum can find another part of the Angelic Alliance: the Lion's Shield of Courage.

There are a lot of ambushes on this level, and every step can mean another hidden attack. All heroes, particularly Tarnum, should have a decent army at all times.
