The thunderbird is the upgrade to the roc, the fifth-level creature of the Stronghold faction in Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia. It can be recruited from the upgraded cliff nest.

Rocs and thunderbirds are the only flying units available at Stronghold towns. When thunderbirds attack, there is a 20% chance thunderbolts will strike their target, delivering 10x the number of attacking thunderbirds in additional damage.^OffBck

The thunderbird has higher speed than the roc, and a useful lightning attack, but is just as vulnerable. Bringing a few thunderbirds will ensure that the player usually gets to act first in combat. 20% of attacks will do 10 extra lightning damage for every thunderbird in the stack.

Notes

• Shiva is a specialist in thunderbirds, and gives them +1 to Attack and Defense per hero level after fifth level. These creatures also get +1 to Speed.
