The final choice he had to make was this: send help to recruit Crazy Uncle Ivan the Warmonger and his barbarian clan, or send a search party out to look for the family's wayward son Joseph, a wizard of some repute."
The Wayward Son is the third scenario of the Descendants campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Price of Loyalty. The player must choose between this scenario and Crazy Uncle Ivan, and either Joseph or Ivan will be available for hire in every subsequent scenario.

The heroes sent out to locate Joseph managed to track him down to the island town of IslandHome, and found him within the time limit.
Walkthrough[]
The kingdom of Jarkonas starts with three heroes: a sorceress, a warlock, and a barbarian, all with low-level creatures. Within a week, they must head north and capture the warlock town found here. Like the other towns on the map, it cannot be upgraded to a castle, but it has a well, a statue, a dungeon, and a second-level mage guild, and centaurs, gargoyles, and griffins can be hired here. South of the town, there's a scroll of Summon Boat, and by heading through the two-way portal, the heroes can find two more boats.
By using the boats and the scroll, the three heroes can sail to the western edge of the map, where can go ashore. To the north of the shore is another warlock town, with the same buildings as the previous, but a third-level guild instead of a second-level one, and the heroes can hire minotaur kings.
After walking to the eastern edge of the map, they can visit the blue traveller's tent, and capture the nearby wizard town, which has a fifth-level magic guild and a library, and they can hire archmagi. They can then head north, past the blue barrier.
Far to the north, there's another warlock town, with a third-level magic guild, a well, a statue, and a dungeon, and they can hire red dragons. By fighting their way past the nomads to the west, they can also hire nomads, and their leader will give them an artifact.
Once they've built up a large army, they should go to the northeastern shore and use the scroll again, summoning a ship and travelling to the town of IslandHome, which is guarded by a large group of titans. Once the titans have been defeated, the heroes capture the town and find Joseph.
