"Tarnum discovered that the force used to bind the elements together was magic, so he became one of the first to travel to the Plane of Magic where anything was possible. And soon he was in a race against the minions of the Elemental Lords to gain the help of the mysterious Magic Elementals."
The Magic that Binds is the sixth scenario in Masters of the Elements.
Tarnum is in a race against the armies of the Elemental Lords to find three Magic Elementals called "the First." All Heroes are limited to level 33, but Tarnum and his three best heroes wil transfer to the next scenario with all their spells, skills and experience.OffBck
While trying to reach the magic elementals and secure an alliance, Tarnum learns that the Lord of Fire has enslaved the phoenixes who dwell on the Plane of Fire. He wants to free them immediately, but the Wizards councel him to seek the magic elementals - if the Elemental Lords reach them first, Tarnum will lose the war. Reamus manages to convince him to wait before freeing the phoenixes, but as a former slave himself, Tarnum doesn't want to leave any creature in slavery.
Most of the mages in the camp suspect that Tarnum is a Barbarian, and think he's a spy who plans to bring down King Gavin Magnus. The Mage Instructor Hemoross tries to force Tarnum to step down, but Barsolar, the king's cousin, sides with Tarnum, proclaiming that most of them would be dead if it wasn't for him. Angry at this humiliation, Hemoross later ambushes Barsolar and attemps to kill him, but Tarnum steps in to save him, and Hemoross is locked away.
Walkthrough[]
Tarnum starts out in the southwest with a Conflux and his three best heroes from the previous scenario. If he picked up the tome of air, water, earth, or fire magic, they'll be gone from his inventory, but the Orb of the Firmament, Driving Rain, Silt and Tempestuous Fire will still be there.
There are four enemy Confluxes on the map, all representing minions of one of the Elemental Lords. The green Conflux can only train sprites and air elementals, the teal can only train water elementals, the red can only train fire elementals, and the brown Conflux can only train earth elementals.
From his Conflux, Tarnum can head east to attack the green Conflux. From there, going north will take him to the teal Conflux. He can then go northeast to the red Conflux, before finally heading south and dealing with the brown Conflux. All of these areas are protected by neutral garrisons.
All enemy Confluxes have a keymaster's tent outside them, and once Tarnum has visited them all, he can go through the border gates northwest of the teal Conflux, fighting his way through the creature stacks until he reaches the magic elementals, who offer to join him. Once they're in his party, Tarnum is victorious.

There are lots of signs on the map, all of which will teach heroes a single spell if they pay a few hundred gold pieces. The spell in question is listed on the sign.
