The 3DO Company was founded in 1991 as a new branch of Electronic Arts for the purpose of conquering the market of gaming consoles with their 3DO hardware which was the first CD gaming console manufactured by various constructors and who took lower royalties on games published on the console than Nintendo and Sega who the 3DO Company failed to compete with nevertheless which is why they turned from a hardware designer into a third-party games publisher.

The Company published products for several platforms, including personal computers (PCs), PlayStation (PS), PlayStation 2 (PS2), Nintendo 64 (N64), Nintendo GameBoy Color (GBC) and Nintendo GameBoy Advance (GBA). The Company was also developing games for new generation gaming consoles such as Nintendo Game Cube (NGC) and Microsoft X-Box (XB) that they cancelled because they went bankrupt before they could.

Its existing brands include Army Men, BattleTanx, Captain Quazar, Cubix, GoDai: Elemental Force, Golf War: Operation Desert Hammer, Heroes of Might and Magic, High Heat Baseball, Killing Time, Meridian 59, Might and Magic, World Destruction League and Zhadnost: The People's Party.
