"Will there ever be peace? For as long as I have lived, and for as long as anyone knows, there have been wars. Even the gods fight each other. Conflict, anger, murder, hate. They are all as much a part of us as love and kindness. So, I ask you, is any price too high to obtain everlasting peace?"
—Solmyr
Slave to Fear is the sixth scenario in the Price of Peace campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic IV.
Walkthrough[]
Solymr finally turns against his insane master when he learns that Gavin Magnus plans to establish order in the world by controlling the minds and wills of every creature with the Crystal Pendulum. Solymr must stop him, but alone he doesn't have the power. His only hope is to find his former enemy, Queen Emilia.OffBck
Horrified by the effects the Crystal Pendulum has on its victims, Solmyr flees from his master, Gavin Magnus, and tries to join the forces of Emilia Nighthaven.
Solmyr starts out alone in the southeastern corner of the map, with a few basic artifacts. Slightly to the north is an Altar of Wishes that will join him when he approaches. By continuing on his path, he will find a neutral Academy he can take over.
To the west is a quest hut that will show him where Emilia Nighthaven is, if he captures the Haven town of Cauldron Hill. The town is located further west, under the control of the green player. If Solmyr removes all forces, the town will rebel, so there must always be some friendly troops there to stop it from acting up.
To the east is another neutral Academy, and to the north are two more - one is to the north-east of the center of the map, the other north-west. They are likely to be captured by the blue and orange player, respectively, quite early in the game.
Near the orange starting town is a quest tower that Solmyr can pass through if he captures the orange town. The quest hut will open the path to Emilia's hiding place if Solmyr brings fifty genies to join General Tharj's forces.
Emilia can be found near the center of the northern edge of the map, hiding in a Woodcutter's Cottage. Solmyr doesn't have to defeat any of the enemy players to visit it, but defeating all three will give him some experience that could be useful later.

Strategy[]
Since the enemy controls more towns than Solmyr does, this scenario should be taken with haste and caution. Solmyr should have enough experience and skills to overcome most challenges, though it is not necessary to defeat the enemy, since the object is to find Emilia. Practically, the town in the center of the map proves to be vital point, since north of it is the lodge Emilia can be found.
