Search for a Killer is the third scenario of the Unholy Alliance campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death. It is available at the same time as Gathering the Legion, Final Peace, and Harvest. When Lord Falorel is poisoned, the elves discover that he was actually a vampire named Vayarad. Gelu must then drive Vayarad's Necromancers out of AvLee.
"This morning I learned Lord Falorel was dead, apparently from poison. What was learned soon afterwards has sent shockwaves throughout all of AvLee. He was actually a Vampire disguised as an Elvish warlord. I must find out who poisoned him and how he came to such a high position within AvLee."
—Gelu
Walkthrough[]
Defeat all the Necromancers in the area to win the scenario. However, if Gelu is defeated in combat, the scenario is lost. Gelu is limited to level 30 but will carry his experience, skills and spells on to his next scenario.OffBck
Gelu start in the northwest with a few sharpshooters and a single Rampart, Willowglen. To the east are a neutral Rampart and an enemy Necropolis. To the south, across the river, the enemy has four Necropolises and two high-level heroes, Galthran and Aislinn.
The first priority should be to build up an army and capture the two towns to the east as quickly as possible. The Rampart is undefended, but Gelu can hire some creatures here to help him conquer the heavily-defended Necropolis. Secondary heroes can be used to claim the surrounding mines.
Once Gelu has three towns under his control, he can raise a larger army and start to head south using the shipyard to the east. The biggest threat is the two high-level heroes, but once they have been defeated, the rest of the team should offer little opposition. One tactic for fighting them is to capture a Necropolis and wait for them to siege it.
Conquer all towns and defeat all heroes to win the scenario.
