"Ordwald is absent. No wonder his lands were so easy to take. It seems he has spent his life and his father's fortune in pursuit of the fabled Vial of Dragon Blood. It is said to hold blood taken from the Dragon Father. It is believed drinking it will transform the user into a sentient dragon. Orwald isn't as stupid as I believed. Still, he is old. I will find him and the vial, but first, I must dispose of the young lords who have heard the news and nip at my heels."
—Mutare
Savaging the Scavengers is the second scenario of the Dragon's Blood campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic III: Armageddon's Blade.
Walkthrough[]
Obliterate your opponents, but once again do not lose the hero Mutare. To do so would mean instant destruction. Mutare will be limited to eighteenth level, but will carry over the Dragon Scale Shield to use in the next scenario.OffBck
Mutare is not surprised to hear the old warlock, Ordwald, is looking for the Vial of the Dragon's Blood, which can transform its drinker into a dragon. To catch up with Ordwald, Mutare has first to slay the two lords that may prove a threat: Preuet and Caomham. To her luck, they are not allied, so she can take both of them, one by one. To start off, she has left General Miah to protect lands formerly held by Ordwald, while her other general, Sengana, will protect her own lands while she is absent.
To start, Mutare has to capture the nearest Dungeon, Gloom Cave, then pursue the other five Dungeons, as well as Caomham's ally Lorelei and Preuet's emissary, Deemer. Deemer's base is in southwest, at a Dungeon named Dank Rock, while Lorelei will hold the town named Fetid Cavern. There are also two towns close to them: Gruen Point is located north of Dark Rock, while east of Fetid Cavern lies the Red Spider Dungeon. In addition, Mutare's Master of Scouts reports there is a Quest Guard below No Quarter, a Dungeon in the center of the map (where the subterranean entrance to the lower level is) requires the Charm of Mana, guarding some resources and the Library of Enlightenment. In the same cave lies the Dragon Scale Shield. Besides that cave, there are also few other ones, though they contain minor loot.
Mutare learns that Ordwald does not know the exact location of the Vial of Dragon's Blood. However, Miah sends letters that other lesser lords are attacking to gain information, hence why he also caught some scouts.
Once the forces are defeated, Mutare goes after Ordwald and the Vial itself.
Towns[]
Dungeon x6: Gruen Point, Dank Rock, Gloom Cave, Fetid Cavern, Red Spider, No Quarter
Strategy[]
Though each faction starts without towns, Lorelei and Deemer have two towns closer than Mutare, whose second town (No Quarter) lies in the center of the map. When the town of Gloom Cave is captured, Mutare should recruit additional hero(es) to search through the lands and guard towns, for it is likely for the enemy to send skirmishes. In addition, there are brown monoliths around No Quarter, Red Spider and Gruen Point, which link to northwestern part of the map, where the Dragon Utopia and the Pyramid are held. Close to them is the red monolith, which can transport heroes either to south or east, halfway from Gloom Cave to Dank Rock or Fetid Cavern.
Mutare and her allies are limited to 18th level, though Mutare is the only carryover hero and can transport the Dragon Scale Shield to next scenario.
