Might and Magic Wiki
For other uses of the term, see sanctuary.

The sanctuary is an adventure map structure in the Heroes of Might and Magic series. It first appeared in Heroes of Might and Magic III, and has appeared in every game since. The sanctuary will protect any hero that enters it, preventing enemy heroes from attacking it. This can be used to escape from a stronger hero - simply hide inside the sanctuary until the enemy goes away.

In Might & Magic: Heroes VI and Might & Magic: Heroes VII, the structure is known as the shelter.

In Heroes of Might and Magic IV, the structure will also resurrect dead heroes. There's also a structure known as the sea sanctuary, which is a sanctuary for ships. Like the land-based version, it will protect the player's army from enemy forces, and resurrect dead heroes.
