"Now in search of the mighty Azure you hear of disturbances to the North. Burned villages and destroyed mines are causing the region to suffer. Without the mines in full production the region will not have the resources to defend themselves against Krewlod invasions or eat. Knowing you are the destined Dragon Slayer, it is time to follow the road north in search of ways to hone your skills."
Dracon

Rust Dragons is the second scenario of the Dragon Slayer campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic III: Armageddon's Blade.

Walkthrough[]

Rust dragons have invaded the area, halting mine production. Flag all of the mines within six months, but do not lose the Dragon Slayer or your cause will be lost. Dracon, his skills, spells and Experience up to level 24 will carry over to the next scenario.OffBck

Dracon comes to an area, where people report attacks from rust dragons. These dragons guard mines and will not surrender. Dracon will have to defeat these dragons and flag the mines. However, there is a barbarian threat in the north-west, led by Shiva, which may slow Dracon down. Dracon starts in south-east, with the remaining army from the previous scenario. In addition, there is a quest guard in the south asking for a pendant of Life. It guards some resources, as well as the crown of dragontooth, which Dracon can dream about, thinking it is an artifact of great importance, as well as the collar of conjuring.

The collar can be obtained from a seer living northwest of Talirindë, a town in the southwest, for the Diplomat's ring (obtained from the previous scenario). South of Talirindë are 400 arch magi, guarding a scroll of dimension door. Dracon can use this spell to teleport himself to a prison near Talirindë and can rescue Crag Hack, who can also obtain the spell scroll near the prison. There is also a seer in the northeastern area, who asks for angel feather arrows and gives away the golden bow. The arrows can be obtained in southwest, near the gem pond. One can either enter that area through dimension door or visiting the black keymaster tent or using dimension door spell. The black keymaster lies at the gold mine, northwest of Asenius, but is guarded by titans and must be reached through the green monolith portal, located far to northwest. That portal is also protected by the keymaster guard, but can be opened by visiting the dark blue keymaster tent near Talirindë.

Once all rust dragons have been defeated and the mines flagged, Dracon moves onwards to slay more dragons.

Notes[]

  • If the Faerie Dragon scenario has been completed, Dracon will not receive any army from the previous scenario.

Strategy[]

At the beginning, Dracon will have to capture the nearest town, Asenius, to the north, to gain some advantage. Since there are quite many rust dragons, Dracon could leave all of his army, leaving his titans, to combat some of these dragons to obtain some mines. In addition, Dracon will have to defeat the barbarians in northwest, else they may be too powerful for him to take them down. Once the barbarians are defeated, Dracon can cleanse the rest of the rust dragons without any possible threats. Heroes are limited to level 24 and Dracon can advance to next scenario: either Faerie Dragons or Azure Dragons, if Faerie Dragons scenario has already been completed.
