"My pet necromancer overheard your conversation with my brother. You chose wisely. My brother doesn't stand a prayer of winning this war, and your head would have joined his on the chopping block. But don't fear. If you continue to serve me well I will reward you with an Earldom at my brother's summer palace. Now to business. The peasants that plow my fields are staging a rebellion directed by Roland's men. I am directing you to put this rebellion down and capture the leaders of the rebellion. I am sending Lord Corlagon to aid you in your fight."

"Welcome to the winning side. You will see that I am an easy man to work for. I reward success and punish failure. If you are faithful and we win this war, I will grant you an Earldom. Now to business. The peasants that plow my fields are staging a rebellion directed by Roland's men. I am ordering you to put this rebellion down and capture the leaders of the rebellion. I am sending lord Corlagon to aid you in your fight."

Rebellion is the sixth scenario of Archibald's campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars.

You must put down a peasant revolt led by Roland's forces. All are allied against you, but you have Lord Corlagon, an experienced hero, to help you. Capture all enemy castles to win.OffBck

After defeating unruly lords disloyal to King Archibald in the previous scenario (having either declined an offer to join Roland or defected from Roland's service to join Archibald), The Commander is ordered to take command of Lord Corlagon and deal with a Peasant rebellion led by a powerful Wizard.

Rebellion is notable in the Heroes of Might and Magic series for being the first scenario to encourage amassing an enormous army of Skeletons through Necromancy, truly showcasing the potential power of the Necromancer faction. It is also the first mission in which the player can take control of Corlagon, the de facto first Death Knight hero to appear in the series (a Knight armed with the normally-unavailable Necromancy secondary skill). The map was designed and created by Christian Vanover, a prolific New World Computing level designer.[1]

Walkthrough[]

The commander has a red castle and hero in the east, the faction depending on the player's choice. In addition, the knight Lord Corlagon will be near the castle, with expert necromancy, some skeletons, and a bone dragon.

There are three opponents: a green wizard to the northwest, a yellow knight to the north, and an orange knight to the south. All three have a single castle and hero each.

Since there are many large peasant stacks on the map, and the neutral towns scattered around the map have hundreds of peasants each, it's easy to build up a large force of skeletons with Corlagon's expert necromancy. Overwhelming his opponents with the force of numbers can make combat short, but bloody.

Trivia[]

In its internal map file, the scenario is alternatively entitled "Peasants!".
