The Rainbow Crystal is a magical crystal with hypnotizing powers, appearing in the Price of Peace campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic IV.
The crystal is first mentioned in the Rainbow Crystal scenario, where Solmyr is sent by king Gavin Magnus to retrieve the crystal, so that king Magnus can use its powers to control his unreliable red dwarf allies. With the aid of Holman, the only survivor of the adventuring party that located the crystal, Solmyr manages to defeat Dreggar, the necromancer who now owns it, and bring the crystal back to his master.
The crystal could be used to hypnotize people, and Dreggar ensured that Holman's adventuring party didn't notice his undead soldiers until it was too late. When Solmyr comes near Dreggar's lair, he notices a subtle fuzziness invading his thoughts, and has to slap himself to wake up. But the crystal also used its powers on nearby people on its own - when Solmyr's dwarves start to chip the crystal from the fountain it was placed in, they enter a hypnotic stupor every few minutes, and must be slapped awake to continue working. Solmyr believes that this stupor is why king Dreggar and his followers remained to protect it even after their deaths.
Gavin Magnus placed the crystal in a Crystal Pendulum that allowed him to take away the free will of any army that opposed him, and he used it to take control of Great Arcan. He planned on using it on the entire world to create an everlasting peace, where the Immortal King was the only one with free will.
In the To Slay an Immortal scenario, Daeraphena reveals that the crystal was cut from a cave deep inside the world long, long ago, and that another crystal was taken from the opposide side of the cavern. The other crystal was cut into pieces, and used to forge the Mind Shield, a magical artifact that protects against mind spells - including the effect of the Rainbow Crystal.
In the Price of Peace scenario, Solmyr and queen Emilia Nighthaven use the Mind Shield to resist the Crystal Pendulum and destroy it, shattering the Rainbow Crystal into pieces.
