The pikeman is the first-level unit of the Castle faction in Heroes of Might and Magic III. It can be recruited from the guardhouse. The pikeman can be upgraded to the halberdier.
Pikemen and Halberdiers are among the strongest basic foot soldiers available to any army. While somewhat slow, they have respectable combat ratings.OffBck
Pikemen are a decent first-level unit, capable of defending the town, or friendly ranged units. It's a bit too slow to lead any charges, but still very useful.

- Despite not noted in-game or in the manual, pikemen and halberdiers are immune to cavaliers' and champions' jousting ability.
