Phynaxia was a nation that was a part of Erathia until it declared its independence shortly after the Timber Wars. Its citizens were tired of being controlled by the Gryphonhearts, and wanted to rule themselves. Their empire lasted until 864 AS, when Phynaxia fell to an elven offensive. It was eventually absorbed back into Erathia.
In 1151, a group of citizens in the Contested Lands claimed to be descendants of the Phynaxian Empire, and demanded their independence, by force if necessary. Catherine Gryphonheart, who at the time was serving in Erathia's army, was forced to take her troops and put down the rebellion.
