The phoenix is the sixth tier unit of the Sorceress faction in Heroes of Might and Magic II, recruited from the red tower built in Sorceress towns.

Tactics[]

The phoenix is a middle-of-the-road sixth tier unit, possessed of a two-hex attack and immune to elemental spells, while also costing resources to recruit and only having one available for recruitment per week. While an equal number of phoenixes may overwhelm cyclopes or crusaders, they grow more slowly than these units, and phoenixes lack the hit points and power of the green dragon or titan.

They are best used against units of weaker tiers, especially archers, making use of their high speed to seriously injure the unit and prevent it from attacking distant foes. Due to their high speed the phoenix is a great troop for magic users as it almost always guarantees that you go first. You can have a hero with high magic power attack the enemy with 1 or more phoenix and use the spell Elemental storm to inflict rather high damage to the enemy, you can then proceed to make the hero surrender and rebuy them at a castle later. Frankly, it isn't a fair tactic. Phoenixes also have a high spread in their damage so the spell Bless would be very effective in dealing as much damage as possible.
