The Paladin is an advanced class in Heroes of Might and Magic IV, based on Combat and Life Magic. A paladin has Death Ward at all times, which makes them 50% resistant to Death spells, and increases melee and ranged defense by 50% against Death-aligned opponents.
The Paladin is most likely to learn Combat and Life Magic and fairly likely to learn the Tactics and Nobility skills. Paladins cannot learn Death Magic or Chaos magic when leveling up unless some basic training in those skills is already known.
At higher levels, the Paladin is one of the most powerful classes in the game, due to Life magic letting them cast healing and blessing spells on themselves, making them nearly impossible to kill. The combat skills, and the Death Ward, provide great protection against enemy attacks, especially against Necromancers.
