Nekross is one of the kingdoms of Iranese, and was founded by the necromancer Gauldoth Half-Dead years after the Reckoning.
Nekross appears in the Half-Dead campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic IV.
History[]
After he barely escaped being burned at the stake in Vitross, falsely suspected of murdering children, Gauldoth Half-Dead ran off in a wild panic. Finding a graveyard and raising the dead as his servants, he conquered the surrounding area and set up his own kingdom, ruling over both the dead and the living within its borders.
Learning that his former master, Kalibarr, was still alive, Gauldoth freed the man from his demonic prison. Kalibarr took command of Nekross, which Gauldoth willingly gave him.
After taking care of groups of rebellious demons, who considered Kalibarr weak, and activating the Points of Power that would give Kalibarr increased power, Gauldoth was sent to acquire the Deadwood Staff for his master. He eventually learned that Kalibarr worshipped an evil God of Death that he sacrificed children to, and that planned to wipe out all life in Axeoth. Gathering his forces, and allying with the powerful Kreegan Suraze, Gauldoth managed to defeat his master, free the children, and regain control of Nekross.
"Long after Great Arcan and Palaedra fall, even after whatever kingdoms come after them have faded into obscurity, Nekross will be right here where it has always been. And I will be sitting on its throne! That, Mardor, is my kind of victory!"
