Necromancy is the the class-specific skill for the Necromancers of the Necropolis in Heroes of Might and Magic V.

Effects[]

Necromancy allows the raising of enemy dead as undead after a battle.

  • Basic Necromancy allows a Necromancer to raise 20% of fallen enemy living creatures as own soldiers (a limited number of creatures can be raised per week). Increases the number of dark energy points.
  • Advanced Necromancy allows a Necromancer to raise 30% of fallen enemy living creatures as own soldiers (a limited number of creatures can be raised per week). Increases the number of dark energy points.
  • Expert Necromancy allows a Necromancer to raise 40% of fallen enemy living creatures as own soldiers (a limited number of creatures can be raised per week). Increases the number of dark energy points.
  • Ultimate Necromancy allows a Necromancer to raise 50% of fallen enemy living creatures as own soldiers (a limited number of creatures can be raised per week). Increases the number of dark energy points.

Necromancy can raise a number of creatures, which has a set of rules:

  • To raise an undead unit, the desired Necropolis unit's Hit Points must be equal to the number of total Hit Points of living creatures slain in battle. At the same time, there cannot be more creatures raised than the number of units slain.
  • Each Necropolis unit takes a number of Dark Energy points to be raised. Dark Points are shared among all Necromancers, and contribute to its maximum capacity. Dark Magic is recharged at the start of each week. The amount of Dark Points is equal to 200 + Necromancy bonus + pillar of bones / Tomb of the Lost bonuses.
    • Until level 7, the hero contributes with Dark Points equal to his Necromancy mastery level: 1 for Basic to 4 for Ultimate Necromancy level.
    • For other levels, the hero contributes Dark Points, using this formula (final result is rounded down):
      • Thus, at level 7 with Basic Necromancy Necromancers contribute with 2 Dark Points, whereas at level 40 with Ultimate Necromancy, they contribute with 580 Dark Points.
  • Dark Points are used to revive Necroplis creatures from fallen creatures. If the Necromancer can revive an upgraded unit, a choice is provided which upgraded form to revive. Fallen creatures exclude elementals, undead creatures, iron golems, unicorns, angels and all of their upgrades.

Banish (Summoning Magic) Deirdre is a specialist in this ability, for the effects of banshee's howl grow stronger as her level is increased. A Necromancer wearing "Death's Embrace" artifact set also improves this ability with -2 morale and luck, and -10% to initiative to enemy creatures.

Dark renewal (Dark Magic) Any time a creature is attacked (the animation of blood maiden shows three attacks), the hero regardless receives some mana from each attack.
Resistance (Defense)
Howl of Terror Banshee howl special ability additionally dampens enemy morale by -6. This is the ultimate Necromancy skill; it does not unlock other abilities, but it requires abilities from other skills:

Notes[]

  • Before the game was patched, Necromancy could only raise skeletons, and the skill "Skeleton Archers" would allow them to raise skeleton archers instead. This skill was replaced by "Mark of the Necromancer", which was originally a part of Dark Magic skill. The Necromancer was also not limited by Dark Energy points, allowing them to raise skeletons after every combat.
