Might and Magic Wiki

A mine is a general term for a resource production site located on the map. These can be flagged by a hero to provide a consistent stream of resources. Depending on the resource and game, the term "mine" may not be literal.

Opposing heroes can raid or flag mines, depriving you of said resource. However, there are means to protect mines beyond direct interception with your own hero. Heroes II has spells to provide mine guardians and Heroes III allows players to leave troops behind as mine guards.

Abandoned mines are protected by neutral creatures and do not reveal what they produce until they are cleared out.
