The marksman is upgrade to the archer, second-tier creature of the Castle faction in Heroes of Might and Magic III. It can be recruited from the upgraded archers' tower.

Archers and marksmen are lightly armored troops armed with crossbows for ranged attacks and daggers for light hand-to-hand fighting. Marksmen can get off two shots in each ranged attack.OffBck

Stat-wise, this is a slight change - higher speed, and twice the ammo doesn't sound like much to justify the 50 extra gold. But the fact that it can shoot twice, meaning that it will do double the damage, makes this a large improvement.

The marksman does very impressive damage for a second-level creature. It is still vulnerable, however, and should be protected at all times.


  • Valeska is a specialist in marksmen, and gives them +1 to Attack and Defense per hero level after second level.
