Heroes of Might and Magic II contains 65 spells, divided into five levels based on their relative power.
Learning spells[]
Spells can only be cast by heroes. Sorceresses, Wizards, Warlocks, and Necromancers can cast spells from the start of the game, while Barbarians and Knights must purchase spell books. Unlike in Heroes of Might and Magic I, heroes don't need to revisit magic guilds to regain spells, as they instead cast spells using spell points.
Heroes need to have the Wisdom skill to learn spells beyond second level.

Bless
- Blessed creatures inflict maximum damage.
- Combat spell, costs 3 spell points and affects one ally for one round per spellpower.
Bloodlust
- Adds +3 to the creature’s Attack skill.
- Combat spell, costs 3 spell points and affects one ally for one round per spellpower.
Cure
- Removes all negative spells and heals 5x Power in hit points.
- Combat spell, costs 6 spell points and affects one ally.
Curse
- Cursed creatures inflict minimum damage.
- Combat spell, costs 3 spell points and affects one enemy for one round per spellpower.
Dispel Magic
- Removes all spells on a creature.
- Combat spell, costs 5 spell points and affects one creature.
Haste
- Adds +2 to the creature's Speed.
- Combat spell, costs 3 spell points and affects one ally for one round per spellpower.
Magic Arrow
- Inflicts 10x Power in damage to a single enemy creature.
- Combat spell, costs 3 spell points and affects one enemy.
Shield
- Shielded creatures take half damage from range strike attacks.
- Combat spell, costs 3 spell points and affects one ally for one round per spellpower.
Slow
- Slowed creatures are reduced to half their normal speeds.
- Combat spell, costs 3 spell points and affects one enemy for one round per spellpower.
Stoneskin
- Adds +3 to the creature’s Defense Skill.
- Combat spell, costs 3 spell points and affects one ally for one round per spellpower.
View Mines
- Shows the location of all mines, and their controllers, on World View.
- Adventure map spell, costs 1 spell point.
View Resources
- Shows the location of all remaining resources on the map in World View.
- Adventure map spell, costs 1 spell point.
Level Two Spells[]
Blind
- Blind creatures cannot take action until attacked and retaliate with half strength.
- Combat spell, costs 6 spell points and affects one enemy for one round per spellpower.
Cold Ray
- Inflicts 20x Power in cold damage to a single enemy creature.
- Combat spell, costs 6 spell points and affects one enemy.
Death Ripple
- Inflicts 5x Power in death magic to all non-undead creatures.
- Combat spell, costs 6 spell points and affects all living creatures.
Disrupting Ray
- Reduces Defense of target by 3. A creature can be affected multiple times by this spell.
- Combat spell, costs 7 spell points and affects one enemy for the rest of the combat.
Dragon Slayer
- Creature gains +5 to Attack skill against Dragons.
- Combat spell, costs 6 spell points and affects one ally for one round per spellpower.
Haunt
- Deflags a mine and sets 4x Power ghosts to guard it.
- Adventure map spell, costs 8 spell points and affects one mine.
Lightning Bolt
- Inflicts 25x Power in electricity damage to a single enemy creature.
- Combat spell, costs 7 spell points and affects one enemy.
Steelskin
- Adds +5 to the creature’s Defense Skill.
- Combat spell, costs 6 spell points and affects one ally for one round per spellpower.
Summon Boat
- Summons nearest friendly, empty boat to caster's location.
- Adventure map spell, costs 5 spell points.
View Artifacts
- Shows the location of all remaining artifacts on the World View.
- Adventure map spell, costs 2 spell points.
Visions
- Gives relative strength of an army camp, and whether that camp will offer to join the hero.
- Adventure map spell, costs 6 spell points and affects one army camp.
Level Three Spells[]
Animate Dead
- Regrows 50x Spell Power in hit points of killed undead.
- Combat spell, costs 10 spell points and permanently affects killed undead creatures.
Anti-Magic
- Creature gains immunity to all magic.
- Combat spell, costs 7 spell points and affects one ally for one round per spellpower.
Cold Ring
- Inflicts 10x Power in cold damage to the adjacent hexes of the target hex.
- Combat spell, costs 9 spell points and affects six hexes.
Death Wave
- Inflicts 10x Power in death magic to all non-undead creatures.
- Combat spell, costs 10 spell points and affects all living creatures.
Earthquake
- Damages all castle walls during siege combat.
- Combat spell, costs 15 spell points.
Fireball
- Inflicts 10x Power in fire damage to the target hex and each adjacent hex.
- Combat spell, costs 9 spell points and affects seven hexes.
Holy Word
- Inflicts 10x Power in holy damage to all undead creatures.
- Combat spell, costs 9 spell points and affects all undead creatures.
Identify Hero
- Allows you to view an enemy hero's statistics and army size.
- Adventure map spell, costs 3 spell points and affects one enemy hero for one day.
Mass Bless
- Blessed creatures inflict maximum damage.
- Combat spell, costs 12 spell points and affects all allies for one round per spellpower.
Mass Curse
- Cursed creatures inflict minimum damage in combat.
- Combat spell, costs 12 spell points and affects all enemies for one round per level.
Mass Dispel
- Removes all spells from all creatures.
- Combat spell, costs 12 spell points and affects all creatures.
Mass Haste
- Adds +2 to creatures' Speed.
- Combat spell, costs 10 spell points and affects all allies for one round per level.
Paralyze
- Paralyzed creatures cannot take action until attacked, and cannot retaliate.
- Combat spell, costs 9 spell points and affects one enemy for one round per level.
Teleport
- Instantly moves any friendly creature to any unoccupied hex.
- Combat spell, costs 9 spell points and affects one ally.
View Heroes
- Shows the location and color of all heroes in the World View.
- Adventure map spell, costs 2 spell points.
View Towns
- Shows the location and color of all towns in the World View.

Level Four Spells[]
Berserk
- Berserk creatures will randomly attack the nearest stack.
- Combat spell, costs 12 spell points and affects one enemy for one attack.
Chain Lightning
- Inflicts 40x Power in electricity damage, then half that damage to nearest creature, until four creatures are hit.
- Combat spell, costs 15 spell points and affects four creatures.
Fireblast
- Inflicts 10x Power in fire damage to the target hex, and to the 18 adjacent hexes.
- Combat spell, costs 15 spell points and affects nineteen hexes.
Holy Shout
- Inflicts 20x Power in holy damage to all undead creatures.
- Combat spell, costs 12 spell points and affects all undead creatures.
Mass Cure
- Removes all negative spells and heals 5x Power in hit points.
- Combat spell, costs 15 spell points and affects all allies.
Mass Shield
- Shielded creatures take half damage from range strike attacks.
- Combat spell, costs 7 spell points and affects all allies for one round per level.
Mass Slow
- Slowed creatures are reduced to half their normal Speed.
- Combat spell, costs 15 spell points and affects all enemies for one round per level.
Meteor Shower
- Inflicts 25x power in damage to the target hex, and each adjacent hex.
- Combat spell, costs 15 spell points and affects seven hexes.
Resurrection
- Regrows 50x Power in hit points of killed units.
- Combat spell, costs 12 spell points and affects killed creatures for the rest of the combat.
Set Air Guardian
- Sets 4x Power in Air Elementals to guard the mine.
- Adventure map spell, costs 15 spell points and affects one mine.
Set Earth Guardian
- Sets 4x Power in Earth Elementals to guard the mine.
- Adventure map spell, costs 15 spell points and affects one mine.
Set Fire Guardian
- Sets 4x Power in Fire Elementals to guard the mine.
- Adventure map spell, costs 15 spell points and affects one mine.
Set Water Guardian
- Sets 4x Power in Water Elementals to guard the mine.

Elemental Storm
- Inflicts 25x Power in damage to all creatures.
- Combat spell, costs 15 spell points and affects all creatures.
Town Gate
- Teleports hero to nearest friendly town.
- Adventure map spell, costs 10 spell points and affects the hero.
View All
- Combines all the previous View spells, and shows the entire map in the World View.
- Adventure map spell, costs 3 spell points.

Armageddon
- Inflicts 50x Power in damage to all creatures.
- Combat spell, costs 20 spell points and affects all creatures.
Dimension Door
- Teleports the hero to an unoccupied, visible location.
- Adventure map spell, costs 10 spell points.
Hypnotize
- Takes control of the creature if the hit points of the stack are less than 25x Power.
- Combat spell, costs 15 spell points and affects one enemy for one round.
Mirror Image
- Duplicates one of your creature stacks. The image is dispelled if it takes any damage.
- Combat spell, costs 25 spell points and affects one ally.
Resurrection True
- Regrows 50x Power in hit points of killed units.
- Combat spell, costs 15 spell points and permanently affects killed creatures.
Summon Air Elemental
- Summons 3x Power in Air Elementals.
- Combat spell, costs 30 spell points and lasts for the rest of the combat.
Summon Earth Elemental
- Summons 3x Power in Earth Elementals.
- Combat spell, costs 30 spell points and lasts for the rest of the combat.
Summon Fire Elemental
- Summons 3x Power in Fire Elementals.
- Combat spell, costs 30 spell points and lasts for the rest of the combat.
Summon Water Elemental
- Summons 3x Power in Water Elementals.
- Combat spell, costs 30 spell points and lasts for the rest of the combat.
Town Portal
- Teleports the hero to any friendly town.
- Adventure map spell, costs 20 spell points.
