Lord Markham's Contest is a main quest in Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor. You start the game with this quest already in your log.
Lord Markham has decided to hold a scavenger hunt on Emerald Island, making his castle in Harmodale (and the responsibilities as lords of the surrounding area) it's grand prize. There are six objects: a red potion, a seashell, a longbow, a floor tile, a musical instrument, and a wealthy hat, that must be returned to the judge for the contest to be won.
Walkthrough[]
Some of the objects may be obtained in several ways, and some have only one method of obtainment. These are:
- Red potion: may be mixed, bought from a shop, or found as treasure.
- Seashell: may be found as treasure in the abandoned shack in the swamp, or bought for 100 gold (or stolen or looted) from Sally, found near the entrance to the Dragon's Lair.
- Longbow: only a specific longbow will do. The one in question is inside the Dragon's Lair (not very far inside). A second longbow can also be obtained by stealing/looting it from Sal Sharktooth in the Temple of the Moon.
- Floor tile: may only be found in the Temple of the Moon, far in the back by the library, hidden inside of a secret room with a bunch of giant rats. Face the altar and take the left passage. Two friendly swordsmen (unless Sal Sharktooth is provoked) will be standing guard.
- Musical instrument: may only be bought for 500 gold (or stolen or looted) from Ailyssa, in front of the tavern.
- Wealthy hat: may be traded (or stolen or looted) for a red potion with Brent Filiant, an adventurer up on the hill behind the healer's tent, or obtained from a chest inside the Temple of the Moon. Face the altar and take the right passage. Note that taking the hat and speaking to Sal Sharktooth afterwards will turn him and his associates hostile unless surrendered to him.
Thomas the judge will award 500 xp for each item as it's found. After all of the items have been found, Lord Markham will award a 1000 xp bonus, the deed to Castle Harmonadle and passage off the island.
