Grand Forgesmith Khazandar is a smith that appears in Heroes of Might and Magic III: Armageddon's Blade. He was hired by Xeron to forge Armageddon's Blade, and then murdered when the work was complete.
He is described as an old man with "longish gray hair, a full beard, mustache, and a strange aura about him".
Biography[]
According to tavern rumors, Khazandar was once studying to be a wizard or alchemist, but was kicked out of Bracada for "acting too mercenary". It was also said that he apprenticed as a smith under Galen, and once lived in Tarach's Cove. There, he was commissioned to make an adamantine hammer for the high priest of the Temple of Baa.
When Xeron was tasked with making Armageddon's Blade for King Lucifer, he learned that Khazandar was the only man in Antagarich with the knowledge and skill to create such a weapon. He searched for the smith, but the forces of the Conflux had reached Khazandar first. He was held in a simple, heavily guarded hut in the tunnels left behind by the overlords of Nighon during their invasion of Erathia.
Xeron fought his way to the smith, and told him what he wanted him to do. Khazandar told him that he and his apprentice would create the sword for 30,000 gold, if Xeron also promised that Khazandar would be "spared your Armageddon". Xeron gave him his word, and the smith created the blade.[1]
However, when the work was done, Xeron ordered his minions to capture the smith and his apprentice and take them to Jagos, where they would be executed. The apprentice managed to escape, eventually reaching Gelu's camp. Khazandar, however, was tortured and killed, his body crucified upon the battlements for others to mock and jeer.[2]
