"If the Erathians had mounted a strong attack at the first sign of trouble, they would have squashed the Mudlanders before their rebellion could begin. These were, after all, just unarmed slaves. How could they possibly pose any real threat to the great forces of Erathia?"

Hopewielder is the first scenario in Revolt of the Beastmasters, the seventh part of Heroes Chronicles.

Tarnum must defeat Lord Onsten and all of his troops. All Heroes will be limited to level eight, but Tarnum and his two best Captains will transfer to the next scenario.OffBck

The Ancestors sent Tarnum to free the Mudlanders from Erathian slavery. Disguised as a beastmaster, he entered the swamp with a sword in his hand to shatter the chains holding them down.

His first foe was Lord Onsten, a cruel Erathian Lord who treated his slaves worse than most. His gnolls and lizardmen were chained to the walls of the mines they worked in, living and dying in the darkness. When they heard about the rebellion, Onsten tortured and slaughtered his prisoners to scare the slaves into deserting Tarnum. But Tarnum couldn't bring himself to feel enraged at this, since he was the reason that the Mudlanders were under Erathian control - he enslaved them himself to use them as soldiers to free the barbarians of the Wasteland from the Wizard-Kings of Bracaduun.

A wizened old gnoll Witch named Adamina made herself Tarnum's advisor, and told him that hope was a dangerous thing. "Take it from someone and you have already defeated them. Give it to them, and they can do anything. My people are strangers to hope, Tarnum Hopewielder. Proceed with care!" Tarnum told her they were his people too, but it was clear that the witch suspected otherwise.

With the aid of the freed slaves, Tarnum managed to overcome the Erathian forces of Lord Onsten.

Walkthrough[]

Tarnum has a Fortress in the southwestern corner, while the knight Christian has a Castle in the northeastern. There are a few mines and resource piles on the map, but little else of note.

Tarnum's army can only build third-level creatures, so he should gather a large army of lizardmen, gnolls, and serpent flies (or their upgrades) before attacking his enemy.

Strategy[]

Attacking neutral stacks and levelling up will make later scenarios easier, so defeating the foes too early might be a bad idea.

All neutral lizardman and gnoll stacks on the map will join Tarnum's rebellion, so he should seek them out before the enemy can kill them.
