The Guild of the Wooden Flute was a group of Might and Magic fans that were inspired by the wooden flute, a useless item in Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven.

History[edit | edit source]

Might and Magic VI included a wooden flute item that didn't actually have an in-game use. Several fans who had carried the item all through the game began to speculate about secret uses of the item, and two fans, Gamegurl and Steve Jaqvaar, decided to form a guild to celebrate it[1]. The guild created many fake rumors about the flute[2].

When Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer was released, it included The Tomb of Lord Brinne, a tribute to a Might and Magic fan who had been very active on the forums, but had passed away. Early members of the guild were placed as a silent honor guard in the tomb, and a wooden flute was placed in Lord Brinne's sarcophagus. The flute was a key to a secret dungeon in the Plane Between Planes[1].

The guild's website stopped updating in 2001. DaveO, who maintained the site, said that after the 9/11 attacks, it felt "very inappropriate in my opinion to concentrate any more efforts on fictional fantasies"[3].== Sources ==
