The ghost dragon is the alternate upgrade of the bone dragon, the seventh-tier creature of the Necropolis in Heroes of Might and Magic V.

Amid the bottomless swamps that conceal ancient cemeteries, hidden behind the milky fog that blankets the earth, lies the Ghost Dragon. They are not easily spotted in the poisonous vapours that rise up from the bog, but the rare few who do see a Ghost Dragon do not live to tell the tale.OffBck

With a higher attack and damage and lower defense and hit points, the ghost dragon is a more aggressive unit than the spectral dragon. While it lacks Death Stare (which lowers all enemy units' morale) and Cursing Attack (which inflicts Weakness), it can lower the morale of attacked units with its Sorrow Strike, which casts Sorrow on units it attacks (the game states that the spell Despair is cast, but no such spell exists in the game).

Compared to other seventh-tier creatures, however, the ghost dragon is still weak on a per-unit basis, and must compensate through its abilities, being undead, being cheaper than its competition, and having a higher weekly growth if a Dragon Vault is constructed.

Abilities[]

  • Undead - This creature is not alive (like all other Necropolis creatures) and its morale is always neutral. It cannot be affected by Poison- , Blind- or Mind-related magic.OffBck
  • Large creature - This creature is bigger than others and occupies four squares on the field.OffBck
  • Flyer - This creature can move on to any free tile on the game field during its turn, regardless of the obstacles in the way.OffBck
  • Sorrow Strike - When this creature attacks an enemy, the spell Despair (Basic level) is automatically cast on the target.OffBck
