The General is an advanced class in Heroes of Might and Magic IV, based on advancement in both Tactics and Combat skills. A hero needs two ranks in those skills to become a General. The General gives +1 morale for all friendly units.
The General is most likely to learn Tactics and Combat and fairly likely to learn the Scouting skill. All other skills can also be learned when leveling up, but have less chance of appearing for selection.
While the extra morale is nice, the General has far from the best class bonus in the game. However, the combination of Combat and Tactics lets a hard-hitting hero lead an equally impressive army. This is a class where the skills alone are worth more than the bonus.
