"With the treasures of the barrowlands secured, the invasion of Channon may now proceed. Baron Von Tarkin has chosen to make a bold strike straight toward the capital city of Rylos, for indeed, the fastest way to weaken a kingdom is to destroy its heart."

Flies in the Ointment is the second scenario in the Death March (H4) campaign in Winds of War.

Information[]

"The invasion has hit its first real challenge crossing the Alderoth Valley, and Baron Von Tarkin must eliminate all forces in this area, lest he be left with an enemy at his back."

As they begin their invasion of Channon, Baron Von Tarkin's undead forces meet their first true resistance in the Alderoth Valley, as the soldiers of Channon unite with the local Druids.

Strategy[]

This is the last map where Krik will be available, so any available bonuses should be given to Von Tarkin. If he doesn't have Grandmaster Necromancy yet, he should get it at once - attacking living stacks and raising them as Vampires is a great way of getting a large army early.

Von Tarkin starts out with a single Necropolis, with a neutral one located several days to the north. Southeast of that, there's a neutral Haven town - both should be captured quickly. At the end of every week, the second Necropolis will receieve a reinforcements of Mummies, Zombies, and Dark champions.

There are five enemy towns, three purple Havens and two green Preserves. The Preserve ones are less defended, and should be taken out first. Portals can be found behind the second Necropolis, north of the Preserves, and south of the Havens. They lead to each other, allowing for quick strikes, but they are all guarded by garrisons.

If Von Tarkin defeats the druid Thomas Acorn, a neutral hero located northwest of the northern Preserve town, he (personally) can buy a Flaming Sword from the quest hut northeast of the Preserve town, for 12, 000 gold. The Sword will carry over to the next map.

Once all enemies have been taken care of, Von Tarkin can exit the map through the gate on the western edge of the map, southwest of the northern Preserve town.
