The Mad Necromancer's Lab is located in north central Shadowspire. It must be explored to partially complete the quests to Find Blazen Stormlance and recover the spear Ebonest, Find Iseldir's Puzzle Box, and the Lich promotion quest. It is also the starting point for an additional quest, Inquire about a cure for Blazen Stormlance.
Chests in this dungeon require Level 8 Master Disarm Trap to open safely.
The following numbered areas correspond to the numbers on the map.
1. Entry Hall[]
Upon entering, the party will be confronted by one to three Skeletal dragons, Bone dragons, and/or Necromancers, who will attack.
2. Well Shaft[]
This apparent well in the center of the room has an illusion of a (dirty) water well cast on it. In reality, it is a shaft that leads directly to the lower level. Characters jumping in will take no damage from the fall.
3. Elevator[]
This elevator, which is activated by stepping on it, leads to the loft bedroom above, which is occupied by two to four Skeletal dragons and/or Bone dragons. Although the bedroom here is supposedly for Zanthora's "guest," Blazen Stormlance, the dragons hovering in the room (along with his curse) keep him confined to a closet. The shelf in the room contains several white potions and high strength reagents.
4. Library[]
Several Dark path journeymen and/or Necromancers are studying in the library, while one or two Skeletal dragons and/or Bone dragons hover nearby. The shelves contain a few low-level spellbooks and/or minor spell scrolls.
5. Laboratory[]
Several Dark path journeymen and/or Necromancers can be found in the lab and anteroom, practicing their spellcrafting. The book shelves of the anteroom contain a few low-level spell scrolls and/or spell books. Reagents of varying strengths may be found on the supply shelves of both the anteroom and main lab.
6. Staircase[]
This staircase leads to the lower level. At its base are a couple of Skeletal dragons and/or Bone dragons.
7. Storage Area[]
The lower level is mainly a storage area for items too valuable to be left in view in the main lab. These storage chests are trapped and guarded by one to four Dark path journeymen and/or Necromancers, while the hallways approaching them are guarded by Skeletal dragons and/or Bone dragons. The chests contain one or two Lich Jars, gold, and some upper mid-level items.
8. Trapped Halls[]
These two hallways contain floor and wall traps, as well as Skeleton bowmen, Skeleton hunters, and/or Skeleton archers. Skeletal dragons and/or Bone dragons hover nearby, as do Several Dark path journeymen and/or Necromancers.
9. Treasure Room[]
This large room is the main storage room for Zanthora's most valued treasures. One of the two trapped chests contains the artifact spear Ebonest, while the other contains Iseldir's Puzzle Box. Both chests contain Lich Jars, gold, and some upper-mid level items.
