Lord Falorel is a supporting character in Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death. An Elven lord of patrols at the AvLee-Deyja borderline, he served for an indeterminate period of time up until his murder shortly before Gelu joined the Forest Guard.

Biography[]

Falorel held a high position in the AvLee nobility and worked often with the Forest Guard, and instructed new recruits such as Gelu. He presided over the graduation exercises assigned to new candidates, and administrated the tasks and missions assigned to those he trained.[1]

A short time before Finneas Vilmar's succession of the Deyjan throne, Lord Falorel was secretly murdered by a Vampire Lord, Vayarad, who proceeded to successfully assume the guise of his victim. Through Falorel's identity, Vayarad began to seed AvLee with his own brood to prepare for a coup in Deyja against King Vilmar and his advisor, Sandro. Falorel's corpse was stealthily removed from AvLee, most likely reanimated and forced to serve in the Deyjan armies.[2]

Vayarad himself was killed at Willowglen some time later - his remains exposed him as a Vampire, creating confusion and suspicion among the AvLee nobility, who initially assumed that Falorel had been a false identity all along. However, it was swiftly concluded that there had indeed been a real Lord Falorel who had been secretly slain in cold blood, and the Ranger Gelu (who had served under Vayarad-as-Falorel) was summoned to investigate the murder - it transpired that Sandro was the perpetrator, poisoning Vayarad through underlings for threatening his puppet rulership.[3]

The Council of Elders later sent Gelu to avenge the deaths of Falorel and Vayarad's other victims by counter-attacking Deyja and besieging Crypthome. He was accompanied by the Druidess Gem, who had recently invaded another nearby border region to destroy the undead body of one of Falorel's peers, Lord Fayette.[4] What became of Falorel's corpse is unclear, but it was possibly given final peace during the invasion of Deyja and Sandro's removal from power.
