Duke Alarice is the fourth and final scenario of the Rise of the Necromancer campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death.
Walkthrough[]
Defeat Duke Alarice and all his allies to win the campaign. However, if Sandro or Finneas are defeated in combat, the scenario is lost. Sandro and Finneas are limited to level 25 but will carry their experience, skills and spells on to their next campaign.OffBck
For the final step towards the throne of Deyja, Sandro and Finneas have just to slay Duke Alarice and his allies. Finneas does not agree with Sandro's strategy, but Sandro knows well it is a matter of time before Finneas realizes the mistakes and finds himself unable to rule without Sandro. There are seven Necropolis towns, from which four are the enemy ones, two are neutral and one is Sandro's and Finneas' town. The first two towns, owned by the teal player, as well as the southern town owned by the blue player, can be accessed easily, the latter through the green portal southwest of the cenrtal town. However, Alarice's castle requires some keymaster tents to open the border guards and the gates to be accessed.
The keymaster tents must be visited in this order:
- darkblue keymaster tent, defended by archangels, east of the southern Necropolis
- lightblue keymaster tent, west of the central Necropolis
- black keymaster tent, in the northeastern corner, guarded by gold dragons
- brown keymaster tent, in the southeastern corner, protected by dendroid guards
- purple keymaster tent, between the northern and central Necropolis towns
Also, Sandro and Finneas can acquire the two neutral Necropolis towns. The eastern one requires a level 25 hero to unlock the town (and defeat some power liches), while the western one can be unlocked by a green keymaster tent. The tent lies in the north, but is protected by a white border guard, whose tent lies in southwestern corner. In addition, there is a seer in southeast, who asks for a dragon wing tabard for +4 knowledge. The southern seer needs the endless purse of gold
Once the purple keymaster tent has been visited, Sandro and Finneas can access Alarice's castle from the southwestern path. Once the final Necropolis town is captured, the king of Deyja crowns Finneas a lord, unaware Sandro plans on eradicating him and place Finneas as the new king of the undead.

Strategy[]
Like in the previous scenario, one hero should remain defensive and protect the towns, while the other one has to defeat the enemy towns and visit the keymaster tents. Despite many towns, Sandro has just to push the battles onto the enemy, not allowing them a moment to regain their forces. Sandro and Finneas are limited to level 25.
