"My mother has finished preperations for my final test. The finest crystal, stealthly taken from the caverns of Krewlod, has been used to create a great dragon golem. This creature's construction is a feat of magical prowess. To destroy it... is an even greater feat. Yet, I have heard the greatest feat a dragon slayer can accomplish is to kill the rare a mighty Azure Dragon."
Dracon

Crystal Dragons is the first scenario of the Dragon Slayer campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic III: Armageddon's Blade.

Walkthrough[]

To pass the test you must kill the Crystal Dragon. Fail to kill the dragon within two months and you will not become a Dragon Slayer. Dracon, his skills, spells, experience and remaining troops will transfer to the next scenario along with the Diplomat's Ring. Dracon will be limited to level eight.OffBck

Dracon is a wizard that aspires to become one of the dragon slayers. His mother prepared several tests to reach such a title. The first test would be to defeat crystal dragons, which have gone loose. With luck, skill and wit, Dracon should pass by elementals, golems and other creatures to reach the crystal dragons. On his way, he can stumble upon a Shield of the Dwarven Lords, but is guarded by gargoyles and golems. To start off, he will have to defeat the earth elementals and take their route to reach crystal dragons. Remembering his mother's advice, Dracon will have to follow the mountains to reach a brown portal for further progress. Dracon will appear in the south and has to defeat some elementals at the garrison, then go northeast, then take the route north. On his way is a seer's hut asking for a Spellbinder's Hat, giving out the Diplomat's Ring (which is a carryover artifact).

On the end of the route are several portals, three of which are guarded by diamond golems:

  • the green monolith leads to the spellbinder's hat, but is guarded by 180 obsidian gargoyles
  • the brown two-way portal leads to 75 diamond golems guarding nothing
  • the blue portal takes to the path guarded by water elementals at the starting point
  • the red portal takes to the path guarded by air elementals at the starting point
  • the brown one-way portal takes to the southern area (near the garrison)
  • the white portal takes to the area were crystal dragons lie.

In the Magical Planes area, Dracon will have to defeat a hundred enchanters before facing the five crystal dragons. There are also the hill fort to upgrade all creatures, as well as a black market, but both are guarded by 50 diamond golems. However, before going to the black market, Dracon will have to give away 100 of all resources, plus 35 000 gold, else he would've been attacked. Upon their defeat, Dracon advances to his next quests.

Towns[]

Tower: Camp Dracon

Strategy[]

Before doing anything, Dracon has to head to his camp and buy a spell book and learn expert wisdom to learn all spells, since they will be of utmost importance. Dracon will have to pick the skills from the witch's hut, guarded by elementals. These are all four elemental magic skills. Continuing towards the first portal, Dracon will have to pick up the equestrian's gloves to speed up. Also, he shouldn't pick up resources, for there are many mines that will boost him later, plus the resources will slow him down. Dracon is limited to level eight and the ring of Diplomat, as well as his entire army, will carry over to next scenario.
