"I see that you have gathered your force and are poised to attack Archibald's defenders. Due to a desperate counter offensive upon my holdings here in the West, I am unable to send you aid in this crucial hour. I can only hope that the forces you have gathered, magical or otherwise, are sufficient to the task. Lord Haart will assist you in your endeavor. Oh, and one more thing - Be sure to capture general Corlagon. If we can deny Archibald his wisdom, Archibald will fall more easily."
—Roland
Corlagon's Defense is the ninth scenario of Roland's campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars.
Three allied enemies stand before you and victory, including Lord Corlagon. Roland is in a castle to the northwest, and you will lose if he falls to the enemy. Remember that capturing Lord Corlagon will ensure that he will not fight against you in the final scenario.OffBck
On their way to the final battle against Archibald, Roland and his commander were attacked by Corlagon and his allies. The commander brought his armies against the foes, clearing the way for his king.
Walkthrough[]
The commander starts on the western side of the map, with one knight castle, one sorceress town, one wizard town, and three heroes. Roland has a yellow knight castle located on the western island. Keeping him safe is vital.
There are three opponents, with a castle and a hero each: a green barbarian to the east, an orange necromancer to the southeast, and Corlagon's red warlock castle is located to the northeast.
There are two neutral towns in the center of the map: a wizard town to the north, and a knight town to the south. North of the northern one, there's a two-way portal leading to Roland's lands. Keeping enemies away from this portal will keep Roland safe.
The commander is almost evenly matched at the start of the game, with three cities and three heroes on each side, though the commander has towns instead of castles and fewer troops. By gathering an army and taking out one of the castles, it's possible to shift the balance of power early, taking out the enemies one by one. Corlagon should not be allowed to escape, and hunting him down is an optional mission.
Bugs[]
There is an easy way to win this map, and it is to block Corlagon off using the two-way portal leading to Roland. First off, the player should recruit a hero and give them the fastest troop (the hero has to outrun Corlagon, or this won't work). Second, lure Corlagon toward the fast hero and into the portal (be sure to go far in so that Corlagon can't reach the hero but not too far to the point where the hero can't get out next turn). If Corlagon chases the hero and enters the portal, quickly exit Roland's lands and stay on top of the two-way portal. This way, the player won't have to deal with Corlagon and his army, and the rest of the map is simple. Also, put a protector near the hero blocking the portal so that the red player won't free himself.
