Celestia is the leader of the Crusaders, and appears in Crusaders of Might and Magic.

Biography[]

About thirty years ago, a Warrior Priestess from the fringes of Duskwood emerged to challenge the Crusader Knights to accept her as one of their own. She passed all of their tests, showed great skill as a leader, and despite the odds, rose through the ranks to ultimately claim leadership of the Crusade itself.

Her indomitable drive and her passion for the success of the Crusade has made hers a Golden Rule for the past ten years. She has stepped up the floating Crusader patrols, expanded the flotilla of patrol ships, reorganized the knights' charter to more harshly root out lawlessness and chaos and generally has infused the Crusade with renewed energy and zeal. Her style of leadership is both commanding and intoxicating, making her one of the best-loved and most respected leaders to ever command the Crusade.

Celestia joined the Crusaders thirty years before the events of the game. She became an officer around the same time as Nomandi and Steggan, who found her to be unnerving and ruthless. They also found it odd that she didn't seem to age at the same rate as the rest of them. Celestia rose quickly through the ranks, and eventually ruled the Crusaders. She had a cold effectiveness when giving orders, and never did anything that didn't carry a clear tactical advantage, even if it meant leaving innocent people to die at the hands of the Legion of the Fallen, the undead enemies of the Crusaders.

Celestia created a new section of the Crusaders known as the High Guard, which was composed of "brash youngsters" who would do anything she said, and had no loyalty to the Crusaders' "archaic" moral values. The rest of the Crusaders were placed in the Old Guard, consisting of experienced veterans who embraced the order's timeless ideals. In addition, there was also the Black Knights, Celestia's personal elite guard, hand-picked warriors with an intimidating presence.

At one point, Captain Ursan carried out a secret mission for the Crusaders. When he returned, Celestia chided him for endangering himself, instead of sending a less important underling in his stead. She appointed him as the chief of her staff, both as a reward for his heroism and as punishment for his recklessness.

When Celestia heard about Drake, the young warrior who was singlehandedly fighting the Legion, she sent her agents out to learn more about him. When she heard that he had been taken prisoner and sent to Stronghold, she appeared before him in a vision and helped him escape. She told him to go to Citadel, the flying palace of the Crusaders, and seek her out.

Differences between the PS1 version of events, given above, and the PC version:

  • Ursan was never appointed as Celestia's chief of staff, and continued to go on missions himself.
  • Celestia did not contact Drake in the Stronghold, and Drake managed to escape on his own. On his way out, he freed Ursan, who told him to go to the Citadel and talk to Celestia.

Gameplay[]

Celestia can be found in her throne room in both the PC and PS1 versions of the game, surrounded by her loyal guards. In the PS1 version, Ursan can be found here as well.
