"What made Emilia Nighthaven a great Queen, and an outstanding woman, was the absence of hate in her heart. It was her nature to give everyone a fair chance, even an enemy. To put aside those natural feelings of revenge and treat an invader with justice and, later, trust takes a rare person indeed."
Solmyr ibn Wali Barad

An Enemy's Trust is the second scenario in the Price of Peace campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic IV.

Walkthrough[]

"Soon after Emilia is named Queen of Great Arcan, she must defend her country against an invasion led by Solymr, servant of the Immortal King. But Solymr isn't just a normal opponent. He is wise and honorable, and performs his duty almost reluctantly, as if he would rather be friends than enemies."

The recently founded nation of Great Arcan is threatened by Gavin Magnus, the Immortal King, who seeks to take control of the kingdom from Emilia Nighthaven. He sends his servant Solymr to take the land, by force if necessary.

Emilia Nighthaven starts out in the northwest with a single Academy and a new hero: Tharj Orcsplitter. He knows some combat and nobility, and should be levelled up - he will carry over with Emilia.

South of the town is a pile of artifacts and resources, protected by a stack of phoenixes and a purple gate. A few days further south is another Academy, unprotected, that should be captured as quickly as possible. The nearby quest hut will give her an Armor of Order if she defeats the forces of the Minotaur King.

Further south is the land of the Minotaur King, a brutal ruler. There are two ways into his lands, both blocked by quest towers that require ten medusas to pass. Southeast of Emilia's southern Academy, a two-way portal, guarded by cyclopses, will lead to a quest hut that will sell ten medusas for 4000 gold. With the quest tower opened, eliminating the Minotaur King should not be hard.

Solymr's forces can be found to the east, behind a blue gate. On the way is a quest hut, granting a Wand of Haste for 40 dwarves, and the purple keymaster's tent. Emilia can go back and fight the phoenixes for the treasure, or continue forward.

Heading northeast from the blue gate will allow her to capture another Academy, and find the blue keymaster's tent. There are two paths into Solymr's lands: southeast, and southwest through the gate. There are two Academies here, and Solymr can be in either, or wandering the map. Once Solymr has been captured, the scenario is over.

Strategy[]

Since there is a portal north of the starting city, Emilia and Tharj will have to be quick in building the cities and doing quests, while having at least some troops in her castle to defend it. Once the Minotaur King's troops are defeated, the rest of the scenario should be easy to complete.
