Might and Magic Wiki

Altar of sacrifice is an adventure map structure in the Heroes of Might and Magic series. It first appeared in Heroes III. It allows a visiting hero to sacrifice artifacts and/or creatures depending on their alignment in exchange for Experience. Good heroes can sacrifice artifacts, evil heroes can sacrifice creatures, and neutral heroes can sacrifice either.

In Heroes V, the structure is named Sacrificial Altar and it additionally grants +2 Luck for next combat to the first hero who sacrifices something to it each week, but it otherwise functions identically. There are also no neutral alignment heroes in this game, only good and evil.

There is a Necropolis structure of the same name in Heroes VII, but it works like a Skeleton transformer.
