Might and Magic Wiki

"When I confronted Winston Boragus, he admitted to setting Krewlod's armies against me to test my worthiness to join them. At first I was angry at this deception until the Duke pointed out that it was I who wanted to be a fighter. The Barbarian within me saw his point. But Boragus has a test designed to see whether I am truly ready to part with the Wizards of Bracada. I must take the magical Angelic Alliance sword, break it apart and distribute the pieces throughout Tatalia, Erathia and Bracada."
Yog

A Tough Start is the third scenario of the Birth of a Barbarian campaign in Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death.

Walkthrough[]

Take the Sandals of the Saint and the Armor of Wonder to Alendora to win the scenario. However, if Yog is defeated in combat or you lose either component of the Angelic Alliance, the scenario is lost. Yog is limited to level 18 but will carry his experience and skills on to the next scenario.OffBck

Yog, furious Boragus has sent Krewlod troops to attack him, confronts the Duke. The Duke reminded him Yog wanted to be a warrior of Krewlod, so this all was but a test to see how tough he was. Yog calmed down, but was given the task of scattering pieces of Angellic Alliance throughout Tatalian, Erathian and Bracadian lands. The first two pieces, the Armor of Wonder and the Sandals of the Saint, must be given to the first seer, Alendora, in Tatalian lands, for a Pendant of Courage.

Unfortunately, the Tatalians won't let Yog pass through their lands easily, having three towns against his forces. Yog dispatches his scouts to find Alendora, from which one confirms Alendora lies in a cave near the main road. Yog will have to pass through a neutral Fortress town and reach the cave, but is blocked by a quest guard, asking for Sword of Hellfire. The artifact can be obtained from a seer southeast of the starting town, but asks for Orb of Inhibition. The orb can only be obtained by acquiring the Orb of Silt, Driving Rain, Firmanent and Tempestous Fire, all four lying at the western island, and trading these artifacts from a seer at the Fortress in the southwest. The area can be accessed by a ship or the portal near the central Fortress. The southwestern Fortress can be unlocked by defeating 90 lizardmen and 10 chaos hydras and giving the quest guard the Clover of Fortune.

To access the western island, Yog has to board the ship. He either has to recruit a hero to summon a boat, or go towards northeast to a shipyard. However, the area is blocked by another quest guard, asking for 15 chaos hydra to unlock the tower. Close to the shipyard is a containing Drakon, a Fortress hero. Once done, Yog has to finish the seer's hut quests and head underground. There are chaos hydras, which need to be defeated and unlock the quest guard (which, like the western island's quest guards, require Yog's presence). Once dismantling the Angellic Alliance, Yog has to give Alendora the Armor of Wonder and the Sandals of the Saint, she gives him the Pendant of Courage, a proof for Duke Winston Boragus that Yog has managed to complete the first part of the challenge.

Towns[]

Strategy[]

Yog will be overwhelmed by enemy forces in the start. The best tactic is to take the central and north-eastern town first, to produce gold and troop production. Once Yog has defeated off the main force, he shouldn't have any problems in capturing the rest of the towns, nor completing the quests. Yog is the only hero to carry over and, like other heroes, is limited to level 18.
